Job Advert Title: Principal Developer
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid, with occasional travel to other offices)
Role Overview
The Principal Developer is one of the most senior technical roles within our organisation. Alongside implementing mission critical solutions, they are also responsible for technical excellence across our whole development team.
Working within the Microsoft ecosystem, this role involves collaborating with stakeholders, developers, and business change to ensure solutions are delivered to the designed specifications, whilst also being mindful of broader strategic initiatives. This role will also involve guiding developers through lower level technical decisions and ensuring best practices are followed throughout the development lifecycle.
Although this is a senior position, this role requires being fully hands-on day to day to ensure project delivery and technical excellence. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to enter a career defining position, being in an authoritative role whilst still leading from the front.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting Isio’s broader development strategy, with a particular focus on team growth, continuous deployments, and the use of a modular coding patterns. All utilising modern development standards & DevOps processes.
- Working with the Head of Development and Solution Architect to agree and implement ways of working processes relating to development.
- Collaborating with multiple teams consisting of internal and external members, based geographically throughout the UK and Europe, working both remotely and at our Isio UK offices.
- Driving Isio’s testing strategy to speed up delivery and ensure development quality is of a high standard.
- Refining Isio’s existing DevOps processes and ensuring they are consistently implemented across all projects.
- Engaging with leaders across Isio to reinforce understanding of requirements and solution designs, then implementing them in the most effective manner.
- Having the responsibility to oversee digital products from initial build to production release and maintenance BAU.
- Supporting with database architecture, in line with the wider group governance. This includes implementing both structured and unstructured data storages.
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the Development team by mentoring and upskilling others.
- Participating in Isio’s CAB to ensure effective governance of changes being deployed to production systems.
- Involvement in Isio’s adoption of AI, including implementing custom AI integrations
- Working in a growth culture business within a start-up like environment, but supported by the stability and resources of a corporate organisation
Key Role Requirements
- 10+ years development experience with the Microsoft Ecosystem (C#, dotnet, Entra)
- 5+ years hands on experience with the Azure Cloud Platform (AWS and GCP are not applicable for this role), covering a broad range of Azure resource types
- Extensive experience with DevOps implementing CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of Github Actions or Azure DevOps Pipelines strongly preferred
- Hands on experience working on codebases of varied high level architecture patterns (Monoliths, Microservices)
- Extensive experience building APIs and API clients to an enterprise grade maturity
- Hands on experience working with messaging queues (Azure Service Bus preferred) and asynchronous architectures
- Knowledge of serverless technologies. Azure Functions preferred.
- Hands on experience working with both structured and unstructured data. MSSQL Server and Azure Cosmos preferred.
- Experience installing and configuring code quality analysis tools
- Demonstratable experience with handling multiple internal and external stakeholders, including engaging with third party suppliers
- Demonstratable experience of using modern design patterns, working with loosely coupled architectures
- Demonstratable experience of priority and time management, including implementing solutions to time sensitive projects
- Demonstratable experience working on multi-year, multi-phase development projects involving multiple different technologies
- Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum ways of working
- Comfortable demonstrating solutions to senior stakeholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
Advantageous Requirements
- Knowledge of AI and AI development tools
- Development experience with Python
- Holding professional development skills certifications (Azure or similar)
- Experience with building integrations to third party software (SaaS) products
- Exposure to building and testing quantitative development models
- Actuary experience and/or Pensions Administration experience
- Understanding of private equity business models
